The fair

Più libri più liberi is organised by the Italian association of small publishers and is one of the few European fairs where the exhibitors are, almost by definition, the people who might speak to an author. It is held in Rome each December. For a visiting writer, this is more promising than the corporate aisles of a major trade show.

Advice for visiting authors

  • Read the exhibitor list. Target houses whose recent titles sit next to yours in a bookshop.
  • Independents have no time for a twenty-minute plot recap. One sentence, one page, one sample.
  • Italian small-press culture values literary quality and a clear editorial identity. Show that you understand theirs.
