The fair
Feria del Libro de Madrid lines the paseos of El Retiro with bookshop casetas for two and a half weeks each spring. It is a public celebration of reading. Publishers sometimes appear, but the exhibitors are primarily booksellers. Come to see what Spain is buying; do not come to hand over a proposal.
Advice for visiting authors
- Treat Madrid as market research: which authors are stacked high, which translations are being pushed.
- Professional meetings belong at LIBER or FIL Guadalajara, not in the park.
