The fair
FIL Guadalajara is the Frankfurt of the Spanish-speaking world: a professional rights market wrapped in a huge public celebration. If you want a publisher in Mexico, Argentina, Colombia, Spain or the wider Spanish-language market, this is the room. Professional days come first; the public then floods the halls.
Advice for visiting authors
- Spanish-language publishing is not one market. A Mexican house, a Catalan house and an Argentine house buy differently.
- Have materials in Spanish if you can. An English one-pager is acceptable; a full English manuscript is a harder sell on the day.
- Use professional days for targeted meetings. Use public days to watch what readers actually queue for.
