The fair

Bokmässan in Gothenburg is Scandinavia’s largest literary gathering, mixing a professional exhibition with a huge public programme of talks. Guest of Honour in 2026 is Québec. For authors, the public character of the fair makes it more approachable than Frankfurt or London: Nordic independent publishers are often on the stand and willing to talk, especially outside peak programme hours.

Advice for visiting authors

  • Learn who publishes English-language or translation-friendly work in Sweden, Norway, Denmark and Finland before you go.
  • Most of the stage programme is in Swedish. The exhibition floor is still usable if you only have English.
  • Treat it as a listening exercise: Nordic crime, children’s books and translated literary fiction are the currents to watch.
